COTTON/WOODEN-FAMILY LINE

GOLD/COTTON/WOODEN/BRIDGFORTH-DAY
Ellen Gold
is 250 years old today, born in 1761.  Ellen is the boys' 6th great-grandaunt and also their 6th cousin 8 times removed, via Nicholas Hopkins and Mary Poole. Ellen was the 4th child of the 11 born to Abel Gold and Ellen Burr. Ellen's brother (the 3rd born) is our family's pivotal figure, in my research, Talcott Gold.  Talcott is the boys' 6th great-grandfather and our direct link to the "War of the Revolution" where he fought as a mariner on one of John Paul Jones' ships, the Alliance.  We have other links to the war and even relatives that founded states and sailed on the "Mayflower" and the "Sea Venture", but no body I've talked to or emailed or read about has a document like we have.
"He was buried at Niles, about a mile away, but the remains have been removed to the family lot of the Cottons in Friendship.  The stone records that he was a good citizen, a faithful husband and father, a servant of his country in the Revolution."  Excerpt from the Powers-Banks Ancestry Book, page 188.
He is pivotal because we as a family hold his original document of his Pension Claim in our possession.  It is signed by the secretary of War, J. C. Calhoun, who was later the 7th Vice President of the US.  I don't know how I came to have it except that I vagely remember aunt Charlotte giving it to Dad to give to me when I was a teenager.  Until just a couple of years ago I had no idea how important this document was.  After all it is 193 years old and has survived countless viewings and foldings.

WARD/COTTON/WOODEN/BRIDGFORTH-DAY
William Ward
is 346 years old today, born in 1665.  This William Ward, and there are at least 3, is the boys' 9th great-granduncle twice.  Once through his brother, Thomas Ward, Sr., the boys' 9th great-grandfather via his marriage with Anna Tappin and their son Thomas Ward, Jr. who married Rebecka Birnham and their child Rebeckah Ward who married William Cotton the son of Experience Hall and Samuel Cotton.  Then again via his sister Phoebe Ward, who married Samuel Hall.  Sam and Phoebe are the parents of Experience Hall.  Wow, I'll have to look at this a little closer.  Thomas Ward, Sr. born 1661 married Anna Tappin at age 51, in 1712.  Thomas Ward Jr. born 1684 when his mother was 52.  Jr. married Rebecka Birnham in 1707, ages 22 and 21.  They begot Rebeckah Ward in 1723.  She married William Cotton in 1742, born to Experience Hall in 1720. Ages, 22 and 19.  Ok, I guess that's right.  My head hurts.

WALKER/COTTON/WOODEN/BRIDGFORTH-DAY
William Walker
is 352 years old today, born in 1659. Of the 4 William Walkers in our family, this one is the boys' 9th great-granduncle and their 3rd cousin 11 times removed, twice.  He is the brother of 9th great-grandfather, Jabez Walker who married Elizabeth Fuller in 1699 in Harwich Massachusetts and begot Jeremiah Walker in 1702.  Jeremiah married Esther Tomlin on October 13, 1724 in Needham Massachusett.  They begot Benjamin Walker who married Sylvia Keith December of 1752 in Bridgwater Massachusetts and later begot Marshall Walker, the boys' 6th great-grandfather.  Marshall married Hannah Dunbar August 17, 1776 and begot Cady R. Walker.
