Meet the family for November 23rd

Jerry Joseph Wooden Sr. and Elizabeth Louise (Betty) Steible's
60th anniversary is today, married in 1950 in Kansas City MO, he at age 23 and she at 22.  They begot Jerry Jr. in 1952 in KC, MO then moved to Dallas, Texas where they begot Steven Ray Wooden, Sr.  Then they moved to Denver, CO where they begot James Price Wooden.  Then they moved to Atlanta, GA where they begot Walter William Wooden.

Kathleen M. Beattie
is 52 years old today, born in 1958 in San Francisco, CA.  Kathleen is Steve's 2nd cousin once removed.  Her father is Joseph Roy Beattie, Steve's 1st cousin twice removed.  Joseph's mother is Wilhelmia Catherine (Minnie) Steible the sister of Ceasar Alford Steible, Steve's Great-grandfather.

Wylie Archer Everhart
is 121 years old today, born in 1889.  Wylie is Steve's 2nd great-granduncle, the brother of Elmer Elsworth (Jughandle) Everhart.

John Gaines
is 298 years old today, born in 1712. John is the husband of the boys' 1st cousin 9 times removed, Susannah Warner.  Susannah's mother is the boys' 8th great-grandaunt, Susannah Hall the younger sister of Experience Hall, the boys' 8th great-grandmother.

Mary Cotton
would be 313 years old today having been born in 1697.   That was just 77 years after the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth. She is the boys' 7th great-grandaunt.  She was the oldest daughter of Samuel Cotton and his first wife, Lydia Bates. Mary was born probably in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Samuel Cotton was also married to, Experience Hall.  Samuel is the boys' 8th great-grandfather and Experience is their 8th great-grandmother.  They had 9 children (that's 11 kids for old Samuel), and our line goes through their second oldest son William Cotton, born in 1720.  William married Rebechah Ward and had 7 children of their own, our line going through Thomas Cotton who married Anna Hubbard in 1787 and they begot 5 children, one of which was the boys' 5th great-grandfather Ira CottonIra and Sally Gold married and had Samuel Cheney Cotton who married Almira Walker and had the first Hubbard Cotton.  Hubbard married Mary Hazelitt and had the second Samuel, Samuel Hazelitt Cotton.  Samuel Hazelitt then married Lotti Ray and had the boys' great-grandmother Marie Antoinette Cotton who of course married Walter William Wooden Sr, Walt's name sake, and the rest is history.  The Cotton line is our longest running known line of ancestors.  Just on the male side I have records dating back to Evon Ivan Bellomontenis who was born in 1026 AD in Cotentin, Normandy France.  He married Emme Lupus and named their first child John De Cotentin. Which I guess means John of Cotentin France.   That spelling stayed the same until the boys' 28th great-grandfather was named William De Contentin in 1110 AD in Suffold, England.  He and Isabella De Leon named their eldest, Edond De Coten in 1130 AD.  Then in 1155 AD another William was named De Cotten.  That stayed De Cotten until John De Cotten and Isabella Fauconer named their son Henry Cotton in 1264 AD.  It is all a little fuzzy with the name bouncing around for several hundred years from one spelling to another until the boys' 12th great-grandfather  Thomas Cotton in 1550.  They begot Andrew Cotton who then begot William Serg Cotton (might have been Sargent)  Serg then had a son who I can document pretty darn well from then on.  He was the Rev John Cotton, born in 1643 in Gloucester, England.  The Reverend and Mary Stowe had 6 children, William, Mary, Joseph, (the first) Samuel, Thankful Cotton and Deliverance Cotton.  Etc, Etc

Thomas Gold
is 251 years old today, born in 1759.  Tom is the boys' 2nd cousin 8 times removed.  His father is the Rev., Hezekiah Gold, the boys' 1st cousin 9 times removed.  Hezekiah's father is the boys' 8th great-granduncle Hezekiah Gold, Sr. the brother of Samuel Gold born in 1692.  Samuel married Esther Bradley and they begot Abel Gold in 1727.  Abel married Ellen Burr and they are the boys' 7th great-grandparents and the parents of Talcott Gold and 10 others.

John Kenley
would be 234 years old today.  He was born the year we finished the American Revolution 1776.  John is the boys' 5th great-grandfather.  He was born in Virginia and died in Clay and Richland, Clay county, Illinois.  Interestingly he seems to have died on the same day as his son Louis Kenley.  Wonder what happened there.  John was 79 and Louis was 56 at the time of their demise.   I don't think they were living together though.  According to the 1850 Federal Census John was living with his son Samuel's family as well as his daughter Nancy.  Our line goes through his first wife Mary Warmsley who died in 1848.  They had 7 children.  James the 4th oldest was the boys' 4th great-grandfather.  He married Mary Jane Gill and had Nancy Ann Kenley and Amanda Jane Kenley, both of who were eventually married to David Stanford.

William Edward McMurrey
died 23 years ago today in 1987 at age 94 in Birmingham, Alabama.  William is the kids' 3rd great-granduncle, the brother of their 3rd great-grandmother, Ida Jane McMurrey who married William Mitchell Mayne December 31, 1899 in Cherokee county, Alabama.  They begot Donie Mae Mayne in 1909 who is the kids' 2nd great-grandmother.
